So, I stumbled upon this whole thing about Ronda Rousey and some transphobic comments. Man, the internet is a wild place, right?
First, I dug up this interview from way back, like two years ago. It was in the New York Post, and Rousey was talking about some other UFC fighter, Matt Mitrione, who had said some pretty nasty stuff about a transgender MMA fighter. I read through the whole thing, trying to get the gist of it.
Then, I found this article dated October 18, 2015. It talked about how Rousey was kind of, sort of, on the same page as Mitrione when it came to this transgender fighter, Fallon Fox. Apparently, she had some issues with the “science” behind it all. I skimmed through that one, it was a bit of a long read, about 8 minutes or so.
- I noticed a bunch of stuff about Dana White, the big boss of UFC. He was saying how not too long ago, no one thought a female fighter could sell big. Boy, did Rousey prove them wrong.
- Then there was this bit about how Rousey is like the perfect modern athlete. She knows how to work the media and all that jazz. It listed a bunch of tags like Mixed Martial Arts, Ultimate Fighting Championship, Dana White, and UFC Fighters.
And it’s not just this. I came across something from way back in January 2013 where Rousey was questioning the Sandy Hook shooting. You know, the one where those poor kids and teachers got killed? Yeah, she shared some YouTube link about it. Crazy, right?
Then, the plot thickened. I learned that Rousey actually retired from MMA because she had too many concussions. I mean, the woman was only 29 when she quit in 2016! It was after she lost to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes. Makes sense, health comes first, you know?
I even found some court documents that mentioned she got paid like $13 million for seven UFC fights. And she won six of them! That’s a pretty sweet deal if you ask me.
In her book, “Our Fight: A Memoir”, Ronda expressed strong negative feelings towards Brendan Schaub, accusing him of playing “messed up mind games” during their relationship.
Rousey said, “It was really disappointing to see how happily everybody turned on me and how people like Joe Rogan, who were crying in the ring about the honor to be able to call my fights, people I considered friends in the media, so quickly turned on me”.
So, yeah, that’s the whole Ronda Rousey saga I went through. It’s a mix of sports, controversy, and personal stuff. A real rollercoaster, I tell ya!
