Okay, let me tell you about tackling the “Last Flight” task Handshake gave me the other day in Gray Zone Warfare. It sounded straightforward enough on paper, you know? Find a crash site, grab something, get out. Simple.

Getting Started and Gearing Up
So first things first, I accepted the task from Handshake in the menu. Checked the details, saw it was about locating a downed plane. Figured I didn’t need super heavy gear for this one, probably just recon and maybe dealing with a few guards if I was unlucky.
I went over to my stash. Grabbed my trusty M4, slapped a basic scope on it, nothing fancy. Took a few extra mags, standard ammo. Packed a simple backpack, tossed in some water, a bandage or two, and a surgical kit just in case things went sideways. Didn’t want to be loaded down too much, figured speed might be useful getting in and out.
Heading to the Crash Site
Once I felt ready, I called in the chopper. Selected the landing zone closest to the coordinates Handshake provided for the crash. The ride over was pretty uneventful, just watching the jungle slide by underneath. Standard stuff.
Got dropped off at the LZ. Hopped out, gave the pilot a wave, and pulled out my map. Checked the coordinates again, got my bearings. The crash site wasn’t super far, but it was definitely through some thick woods and uneven ground. Started my hike inland.
The trek took a little while. Had to keep an eye out, you never know who’s lurking around those trees. Listened hard. Didn’t run into anyone immediately, which was nice. Just the sounds of the jungle. Followed my compass and map markers, pushing through bushes and climbing small ridges.
Finding the Plane and Getting the Goods
After maybe ten, fifteen minutes of walking, I started seeing debris. Bits of metal, torn fabric scattered around. Knew I was getting close. Pushed through a final line of trees and there it was – the wreck of a small plane. It was pretty broken up, nosed into the dirt.
I approached cautiously. Scanned the area around the wreck. Didn’t see any hostiles right away, thankfully. Went up to the main fuselage. The task was to retrieve something specific, usually it’s like a flight recorder or some documents near the cockpit area. I started looking around inside the wreckage, carefully stepping over twisted metal.
Found what I was looking for lodged near the pilot’s seat – looked like the flight recorder box. Small, orange thing. Easy enough. Just interacted with it, tucked it safely into my pack. Objective secured.

Getting Out
Okay, got the item. Now the part that always makes me a bit tense: extraction. Didn’t want to hang around the crash site too long. Retraced my steps back towards the LZ where I got dropped off. Moved a bit quicker this time, still scanning the trees.
Just my luck, on the way back, I heard some voices. Saw a couple of AI guys patrolling near the path I needed to take. Didn’t feel like a big firefight, so I crouched down, went wide around them through the bushes. Took a bit longer, but avoided contact. Phew.
Made it back to the LZ. Pulled out my radio, called for extraction. Then it’s the waiting game. Crouched behind some rocks near the edge of the clearing, watching all directions. Chopper finally arrived, landed, I sprinted aboard, and we lifted off. Felt good to be heading back to base.
Mission Complete
Landed back at base camp. First thing I did was head straight over to Handshake’s tent. Opened up the vendor menu, found the “Last Flight” task, and hit the ‘Complete’ button. Handed over the recorder. Task done, got my reward. Another day, another job finished in the zone.
