Alright, guys, gather ’round, gather ’round. You won’t believe what I saw on the TV the other day. It’s about golf, yeah, that sport with the little white ball. Now, I’m no pro, but I’ve swung a club or two in my time, and I like to think I know a thing or two about the game.
So, I was watching this golf tournament, and this guy, Justin Thomas, he’s a big shot, you know, one of the top dogs. And he said something that really caught my ear. He was talking about Scottie Scheffler, another pro golfer, and his golf balls. Yeah, you heard me right, his golf balls.
Apparently, Scheffler uses these high-numbered balls, like 5, 6, 7, 8. And Thomas, he found that kinda weird. He said he’d never seen an “elite player” use high-numbered balls before. Usually, they stick to the low numbers, 1, 2, 3, 4, you know, the standard stuff. That’s what I do. I thought everybody did.
Why Though?
- I did some digging, you know, went down the rabbit hole of the internet. Turns out, Scheffler does it because it’s easier for him to tell his ball apart from the others. Makes sense, I guess. If everyone’s using 1, 2, 3, and you’re using 6, you’re gonna spot your ball pretty quick.
- But still, Thomas has a point. It’s kinda unusual, right? I mean, I’ve always just used whatever balls were in the bag, never really paid attention to the numbers. Now it makes me wonder, why the number matters.
Then I found this article, and it said golfers are superstitious. They’ll blame a bad round on anything, even the number on their ball! This one guy said he switched because he had a couple of bad holes. Just like that, he changed his balls. I mean, come on, it’s just a number. If a number determines your play, you should quit, am I right?
And get this, the price of these balls? It’s all about the construction, the fancy technology they put in them. Plus, these big-name pros get paid to use certain balls, so that drives up the price too. Us regular folks, we can use the cheap ones and still play a decent game, I reckon.
But this whole number thing, it’s got me thinking. Maybe I should try using some high-numbered balls, just for kicks. See if it makes a difference. Or maybe I’ll just stick to my usual routine. After all, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?
Anyways, that’s my little story from the world of golf. Thought you guys might find it interesting. It’s funny how something as small as the number on a golf ball can spark a whole conversation, even among the pros. It’s a crazy world out there, folks, even on the golf course!
