Okay, so, I wanted to see how my 40-yard dash time stacked up against a pro like Mark Andrews. I heard he ran it in 4.67 seconds, which is crazy fast for a guy his size. I mean, I’m no athlete, but I figured, why not give it a shot? You know, for fun.
First, I needed a place to run. I went down to the local high school track, felt like I was back in my glory days, even though those days never really existed. It was a sunny afternoon, perfect weather, not too hot, not too cold.
I didn’t have any fancy timing equipment, just my trusty old phone with a stopwatch app. I tried to find someone to help me time it, but no luck. It was just me and the track.
- I warmed up a bit, did some stretches, you know, like I saw athletes do on TV.
- I tried to picture myself as Mark Andrews, but, well, that didn’t last long. I’m more of a couch potato than a tight end, to be honest.
First Attempt
I lined up at the starting line, took a deep breath, and started the stopwatch as I took off. It felt weird running all out like that. I haven’t done that in ages. I pushed as hard as I could, but my legs felt like lead after about 20 yards. When I crossed the 40-yard mark, I fumbled with my phone to stop the timer.
The time? A whopping 6.5 seconds. Okay, I was way off from Mark Andrews. Like, not even in the same ballpark.
Second Attempt
I decided to give it another go after catching my breath. Maybe the first run was just a warm-up, right? I lined up again, feeling a little more determined this time, but also a lot more tired.
I ran, and honestly, it felt even slower than the first time. My lungs were burning, my legs were screaming, and I was pretty sure I was going to pull something. I stopped the timer.
This time, it was 6.2 seconds. An improvement, sure, but still nowhere near 4.67. I was gassed. I was done. Mark Andrews, you win.
So, that was my little experiment. It was fun, in a painful, humbling sort of way. I realized that running a 4.67 40-yard dash is a serious feat of athleticism. I have a new appreciation for what these pro athletes can do. As for me, I think I’ll stick to watching them from the comfort of my couch. It’s a lot less tiring.
