Okay, so I’ve been obsessed with Max Holloway for a while now, and his back tattoo is just iconic. I finally decided to do some digging and find out everything I could about it, and maybe, just maybe, get something inspired by it myself.

The Research Begins
First things first, I scoured the internet. I mean, I went deep. I looked at every fight picture, every Instagram post, every interview where his back was even remotely visible. I wanted to get a good sense of the overall design and placement.
It’s clearly a tribal design, very bold and intricate. It spans his entire back, from shoulder to shoulder and going down pretty far. The wings were most eye-catching point for me.
Breaking Down the Design
After staring at pictures for hours, I started to sketch out some of the elements. The main parts that stood out were:
- The Wings:These are the most prominent feature, massive and detailed, taking up most of the upper back.
- Geometric Shapes: There are lots of sharp angles and geometric patterns throughout the design.
- Flowing Lines:Despite the sharp angles, there’s a sense of flow and movement to the whole thing.
My “Inspired By” Idea
I’m not going to lie, getting the exact same tattoo is a bit intimidating (and a huge commitment!). But I really loved the wing concept. So, I started thinking about how I could incorporate that into a design that was more “me”.
I’ve always been into a more minimalist style, so I’m thinking of getting smaller, simpler wings, maybe on my shoulder blades. I sketched out a few ideas, playing around with different shapes and sizes. It’s still a work in progress, but I’m excited about where it’s going!
The Artist Hunt
Now, finding the right artist is key. You can’t just walk into any tattoo shop and expect them to nail this kind of design. I started asking around, looking at online portfolios, and reading reviews. I’m looking for someone who specializes in tribal or geometric designs and has a really clean, precise style.
I’ve got a couple of consultations lined up, so fingers crossed I find someone I vibe with!
The Journey Continues
It’s going to be a process, for sure. Getting a tattoo, especially a bigger one, is a big deal. I’m taking my time, doing my research, and making sure I’m 100% happy with the design and the artist before I take the plunge. Stay tuned for updates!
