That McCaffrey boy, such a pity, such a pity. He got hurt. That McCaffrey injury is real bad, they say. I heard he won’t be playing for a long time. Big strong boy like him, now he can’t play. I heard someone say he can’t play for the whole season! He’s that running back, you know? Runs like a scared rabbit, that one.
They call it IR, this thing he’s got. Don’t ask me what it means, I just know it ain’t good. He’s the best they got, too. The San Francisco 49ers, that’s his team. They are not happy. That’s what I heard. He got that Offensive Player of the Year thing. Must be good, huh? But now, ouch, his leg is messed up. They say he’s out for like six weeks, but the season’s almost over! Only four weeks left, or something like that.
He was runnin’ good, too. They say he was on fire. I don’t know about fire, but he was fast. I saw him on the TV, running all over the place. Then, bam! He falls down. Hurt his leg, real bad. They say it’s his Achilles, something like that. It’s that thing in your leg, connects your calf to your heel. Sounds painful, doesn’t it? Makes my old bones ache just thinkin’ about it.
They say maybe he’ll be back for Week 18, but who knows? Maybe he won’t. That coach, Kyle Shanahan, he’s not happy. Said it himself, that McCaffrey boy’s injury is bad. Posterior something ligament, I think they call it. Big words, don’t know what they mean. All I know is, it means he ain’t playin’ no more this year. Maybe even next year, who knows.

That PCL injury is what he is. That Buffalo Bills game, that’s where it happened. 35-10, they lost. That’s a lot of points, ain’t it? And now their best player is gone. Poor San Francisco 49ers. It happened in San Francisco Bay Area. That’s what I heard. Don’t know where that is, exactly, but it sounds far away.
They say his regular season is over. That means no more regular games for him, I reckon. Just the fancy ones, maybe, if he even gets to play those. I saw him once, runnin’ with that ball. He was good, I’ll give him that. But now, he’s just sittin’ around, I guess. Probably got his leg all wrapped up. Maybe he will get to play next year.
That injured reserve list, that’s where he is now. Sounds like a bad place to be. Like when you put up your preserves in the cellar, but they go bad. He’s like a bad jar of peaches now, I guess. Can’t do nothin’ but sit there and wait. Hope he gets better, though. He’s a good boy, even if he does play for that team I don’t like very much.

Makes me shiver just thinkin’ about it. I remember old man Johnson, he had somethin’ like that in his knee. Never walked right again. Poor fella.
