Alright, alright, let’s talk about this Kyle Brink fella and them Wizards of the Coast folks. I heard some things, you know, things people are yappin’ about. This whole thing with the… whatchamacallit… OGL? Yeah, that thing. Sounds like a big ol’ mess to me.
So, from what I gather, this Kyle fella, he’s a big shot over there. An “executive producer,” they say. Sounds fancy, but I bet he puts his pants on one leg at a time just like the rest of us. Anyway, he’s been doin’ a lot of talkin’ lately, tryin’ to smooth things over.
Seems like they messed up, real bad. They tried to change some rules, rules about how people can use their game stuff. And folks, they got mad. Real mad. Like when you try to take a chicken’s eggs, they gonna squawk and peck at ya!
- First off, Kyle, he went on that YouTube thing, you know, the one with all the videos. He talked and talked, but it didn’t seem to help much.
- Then, he went on another one of them video things. Said sorry, I guess. But sorry don’t always fix things, does it? Like when you step on someone’s prize-winning petunia, sorry ain’t gonna make it bloom again.
He said somethin’ about how they didn’t change their minds ’cause people stopped payin’ for their… uh… subscriptions? Like a club, I guess. People pay money to get extra stuff for the game. He said that ain’t why they backed down. But who knows for sure? These city folk, they talk in circles sometimes.
He also said somethin’ about the big bosses, the “C-suite” they call ’em. Said they were part of the problem. Maybe so. Sometimes the folks at the top, they don’t really know what’s going on down on the ground. Like a farmer who never gets his hands dirty, how’s he gonna know what the crops need?
This whole OGL thing, it’s about lettin’ folks make their own stuff for the game. Like, if you wanna make a new monster or a new adventure, you can. Or you could, anyway. Then these Wizards, they tried to change the rules, make it harder for folks. And that’s like tellin’ a baker he can’t use flour no more. How’s he supposed to bake bread?
People started yellin’ and screamin’, like a bunch of hogs at feeding time. And I don’t blame ‘em. Nobody likes it when someone tries to take away somethin’ that’s important to them. Especially when it feels like they’re being greedy.
Now, Kyle, he’s tryin’ to fix it. He’s sayin’ they’re gonna make things better, make it fair for everyone again. Well, I hope so. It ain’t right to go back on your word, to change the rules in the middle of the game. That’s like cheatin’ at cards, and nobody likes a cheater.
I heard him say he apologized on somethin’ called DD Beyond. Sounds like another one of them fancy online things. He’s explainin’ this new OGL 1.2 thing. They changed it again, I guess. Tryin’ to make folks happy. But it’s like tryin’ to put toothpaste back in the tube, ain’t it? Once it’s out, it’s out.
He’s the executive producer of DD, whatever that means. Sounds important. But bein’ important don’t mean you’re always right. And it definitely don’t mean you can just do whatever you want without thinkin’ about how it affects other people. You gotta treat folks fair, that’s what my mama always said.
So, there you have it. That’s what I know about this whole Kyle Brink and Wizards of the Coast mess. A bunch of fussin’ and fightin’ over some game rules. Hopefully they figure it out, and everybody can go back to havin’ fun. ‘Cause in the end, that’s what it’s all about, ain’t it? Just havin’ a little fun.
