Okay, so, I was trying to figure out how to get the national anthem played at MLB games. It’s something I’ve always been curious about, and I finally decided to dive in and see what’s what.
First off, I did a little digging online. Found out that they started playing the anthem regularly at games way back during World War II. Kinda cool, right? It’s like this tradition that’s been going on for ages.
Then, I started thinking about how they actually pick who gets to sing or play the anthem. I figured it probably wasn’t just some random lottery. Turns out, it’s usually the folks in Public Relations, Promotions, Entertainment, or Community Relations who handle all that. Makes sense, they’re the ones dealing with people and events.
- Reaching out: I decided to get in touch with the teams. I mean, who better to ask than the people who actually organize this stuff, right?
- Gathering info: I sent out a bunch of emails, explaining who I was and what I was trying to find out. I was basically just asking how they choose the anthem performers and if there’s any way for someone to get involved.
- Getting responses: I got responses from a few different teams, which was awesome! They told me that most of the time, they pick someone with a connection to the local area for regular season games. It is a good chance to show the local people, which is understandable.
- No money, but perks: They also said that the singers usually don’t get paid, but they often get to watch the game for free. I guess it’s more about the experience and the exposure, especially since you get to sing in front of a huge crowd and all that. Plus, you get some practice with microphone technique in a setting with sound delays, which can be tricky.
So, after all that, I realized it’s not just some simple process. There’s a whole system behind it, and it’s all about giving opportunities to people and making it a special part of the game experience.
It was a cool little project, and I learned a lot. Plus, now I know who to contact if I ever want to try and get someone I know to sing the anthem at a game. Who knows, maybe one day!
