Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with the Niners’ running backs situation, and it’s been a bit of a wild ride, to say the least. It all started when I heard that McCaffrey was going on IR. I mean, the dude was killing it, 53 yards on just seven carries in his last game! But then, boom, high-ankle sprain for Mason, and he’s out too. Talk about a tough break.
So, with McCaffrey and Mason both on IR, I started digging into who’s going to step up. The word on the street was that this rookie, Isaac Guerendo, was going to carry the load. I mean, he’s a fresh face, and with Coach Shanahan saying he’s gonna get a lot of the work, I had to see what this kid was all about.
I started watching some tape on Guerendo, trying to get a feel for his style. Then, news broke that they signed Israel Abanikanda. Another new guy! I’m thinking, “What are these guys bringing to the table?” So, I dove into Abanikanda’s stuff too. I watched, I compared, I did a whole deep dive on both of them. It’s like piecing together a puzzle, you know?
I spent hours looking into it. With the Niners being so thin at running back, I started thinking ahead. What happens if they make the postseason? Who’s gonna be the guy? It’s like, they need someone to step up big time.
Then, I started thinking bigger picture. What if they want to run it back next year? Are they just going to let go of their Special Teams Coordinator and kicker? There are a lot of “what ifs” floating around, and it’s all pretty interesting. I was up pretty late thinking about all the different possibilities. It is really a hard thing to solve.
Here’s what I’ve been doing:
- Watched a ton of film on both Guerendo and Abanikanda.
- Compared their styles, trying to figure out who fits best in Shanahan’s system.
- Read every article and report I could find about the Niners’ running back situation.
- Thought long and hard about the future of the team, both this season and beyond.
It’s been a lot of work, but it’s also been pretty fun. I’m no expert, but I’ve definitely learned a lot about these guys and the Niners’ situation. The team needs to work hard to solve the problem. I just wish I could get paid for doing this, but I am still happy to share what I found. It is just so interesting to me, I hope you guys also find it fun!
