Okay, so I’ve been seeing this “Pat Perez WITB” (What’s In The Bag) thing floating around, and I figured, why not give it a shot myself? I’m no pro, far from it, but I do love tinkering with my gear, so here’s how I went about figuring out my own version.

First, I grabbed my golf bag and dumped everything out on the garage floor. Clubs, balls, tees, that weird half-eaten granola bar from last season… the whole shebang. It was a mess, but a necessary one.
Clubs Examination Time
Next, I started sorting through the clubs. I laid them all out, driver to putter, and just looked at them. Which ones did I actually use regularly? Which ones felt good? Which ones were just collecting dust?
- Driver: I’ve been using my old one for a while, it is ok, but today, I realized that I should buy a new one next week.
- Woods: I have a 3-wood and a 5-wood. The 3-wood is my go to when, the 5-wood… not so much. I think maybe replace it with a hybrid.
- Irons: My iron set is pretty standard, 5-iron through pitching wedge. I hit them okay, but I’ve been thinking about getting some new ones, maybe something with a bit more forgiveness.
- Wedges:I have a gap wedge and a sand wedge.I can keep it.
- Putter: Ah, the putter. The love-hate relationship. I switched putters like I change socks, so I think I need to stick to one for a period.
After the club inventory, I moved on to the golf balls. I usually just buy whatever’s on sale, but maybe I should be paying more attention to this. I found a mix of different brands and types. I decided to stick with one brand for a while and see if it makes a difference.
Finally, I checked all the other stuff. Tees, ball markers, glove, rangefinder… I made sure I had plenty of tees, my glove wasn’t ripped, and my rangefinder had fresh batteries. You know, the essentials.
So, that’s it! My own little “WITB” experiment. It wasn’t about having the fanciest, most expensive gear, but more about figuring out what actually works for me and my game. Might not be Pat Perez level, but hey, it’s a start!
