Okay, so I saw this idea online for a “tennis ball gender reveal” and thought, heck, let’s give it a shot! It seemed pretty straightforward and a fun way to announce our baby’s gender to our friends and family.

Getting Ready
First things first, I grabbed a couple of tennis balls from the sports store. Gotta make sure they’re the real deal, not those cheap ones that fall apart easily. I also picked up some colored powder – pink and blue, obviously. You can find this stuff online or at party supply stores. Don’t skimp on the powder, you want a good poof when the time comes!
Prepping the Balls
This is where it gets a little tricky. I used a sharp knife to carefully cut a slit into each tennis ball. I made it big enough to pour the powder in, but not so big that it would all spill out prematurely. It took a bit of patience, and I almost sliced my finger a couple of times, so be careful, folks!
Once the slits were ready, I filled one ball with pink powder and the other with blue. I used a funnel to make it less messy, but honestly, powder still went everywhere. It’s a good idea to do this outside or lay down some newspaper.
After filling the balls, I carefully sealed the slits with some strong tape. I wanted to make sure the powder stayed put until the big reveal. I used clear tape so it wouldn’t be too obvious.
The Big Moment!
We gathered everyone in the backyard. My partner and I each took a ball (we knew which one was which, of course!). We decided I would be throwing the ball, I play tennis time to time so the throw must be better! On the count of three, I chucked the correct ball (we’d secretly found out the gender beforehand, you know) at a wall as hard as I could.
- One…
- Two…
- Three…
BAM! A huge cloud of pink powder exploded everywhere! It was awesome! Everyone cheered, and it was definitely a memorable way to share our exciting news – we’re having a girl!
So, that’s my tennis ball gender reveal story. Super fun, a little messy, but totally worth it!
