Alright, so let’s talk about Pokemon Fool’s Gold. I’ve been messing around with this ROM hack, and I gotta say, it’s pretty wild. I heard some buzz about cheats and wanted to see what all the fuss was about.
First off, I found the official documentation for Fool’s Gold. It turns out, it’s a hack of Pokemon Crystal, but they changed a bunch of stuff. All the Pokemon types are different, and they changed up their movesets, where you find them, all that jazz. Even the designs are altered, which is kinda cool. Then I was searching for ways to obtain these free codes or something like that.
I started digging around for cheats and came across a whole bunch of GameShark codes for Pokemon Gold. But here’s the thing I tried to find these specific cheat codes mentioned and use a Game Boy emulator. I tried to use these tools called Plug-in Elite or Pluginsurf to obtain these codes, but I had no luck.
- KUBEN – Supposedly turns all Pokemon into Gligar.
- EMELARD – Sets the starters to Hoenn pseudos.
- EBDOMOS – Sets the starters to Hoenn starters.
- INDIGO – Sets the starters to Kanto starters.
I tried entering these into an emulator, but nothing happened. It seems like these specific codes might not even exist, or they’re just not compatible with Fool’s Gold. Some of the other general cheats worked, though, like the increased Shiny rate. They bumped it up to 1/1028, which is way better than the usual odds. It was cool to run into a few Shinies without spending hours grinding.
The game also has some new moves. Some are from other Pokemon games, and some are brand new, made just for Fool’s Gold. I haven’t used them all yet, but it’s neat to see the new stuff they added.
I also tried using tools like the Universal Randomizer, but it didn’t work. Apparently, Fool’s Gold is too different from regular Crystal for these tools to recognize it. Oh, and there’s this Pokemon called Dhelmise, which is a Dragon-type now. They hid the password for it on the crash screen, of all places. I haven’t gotten around to trying that out yet.
So, yeah, my experience with Fool’s Gold cheats has been a mixed bag. Some of the generic stuff works, like the Shiny rate, but those specific codes like KUBEN and EMELARD? Nada. They don’t work. It’s a bummer, but the game itself is still pretty fun even without those cheats.
Overall, I’d say Fool’s Gold is worth checking out if you’re a Pokemon fan looking for something different. Just don’t get your hopes up about those specific cheat codes working, because they probably won’t. You can find plenty of generic cheats, though, if you’re into that.
