Okay, so I’ve been messing around with Pokemon Go lately, trying to figure out this whole gym defender thing. It’s a bit of a rabbit hole, but I think I’ve finally got a handle on it. I’m going to share what I’ve learned so you don’t have to repeat my trial and error, haha.
First off, I started by just throwing my strongest Pokemon into gyms. You know, the ones with the highest CP. Figured that was the way to go, right? Well, not exactly. I noticed those guys were getting knocked out pretty quick. So, I did a little digging.
Turns out, there’s more to it than just brute strength. You gotta think about the Pokemon’s HP and their attacks, especially the fast attacks. I learned that those are key for wearing down attackers quickly. Snorlax and Vaporeon kept coming up as solid choices, probably because they’ve got a ton of HP and decent attacks. Oh, and a little tip I picked up: Pokemon hatched from eggs usually have better stats than ones you catch in the wild, so an egg-hatched Vaporeon or Snorlax is like a defensive beast.
The Real Defenders Emerge
Then I started seeing these names popping up everywhere: Blissey and Chansey. Seriously, these two are in a league of their own when it comes to defending. I kid you not, Blissey is like putting two Pokemon in the gym at once, it’s that tanky. Chansey’s not far behind either, from what I’ve experienced.
- Blissey: Absolute powerhouse, like two Pokemon in one.
- Chansey: Almost as good as Blissey, way better than most others.
Now, I also learned that leaving a Pokemon in a gym for more than 8 hours is kind of pointless. Unless you’re really attached to that gym or you’re hunting for some medal. Personally, I’m all about those daily coins. If you drop a really strong defender in there, people are less likely to bother attacking. Less hassle for me.
When you’re on the defending team, it’s pretty straightforward. You’ll see a “Choose a defender” screen, and you just pick the Pokemon you want to use. Just make sure it’s not the same species as one already in the gym. I also found that tossing your Pokemon a berry or two can boost their CP, which is pretty neat. This will make it even harder for attackers to win.
I was getting a bit lost in all the details and decided to experiment with other folks’s suggestions. Tried a bunch of different Pokemon, threw them into gyms, and just watched what happened. Some got wiped out instantly, others held their own for a while. That’s where I really started to see the value of Blissey and Chansey.
It took a good amount of time, a lot of trial and error. There were moments when I thought I had it all figured out, only to have my gym taken down in minutes. I even lost track of the number of potions and revives I went through. Seriously, it was a lot.
After all that experimenting, I feel like I’ve finally cracked the code, at least for my play style. It’s not just about throwing in the strongest Pokemon. It’s about finding those tanky defenders that can really hold their ground, like Blissey, Chansey, Snorlax, and Vaporeon. And hey, it’s not just about winning, it’s about having fun, right? So, go out there, experiment, and find what works best for you! Happy gym defending!
