Okay, so a few weeks ago, I started getting into kickboxing. It’s been a blast, but let me tell you, I quickly learned a lesson the hard way. I was sparring with my buddy, and well, let’s just say he got a little too enthusiastic with a low kick. I doubled over, and it wasn’t pretty. That’s when I realized I needed to invest in a protective cup.
So, I hit up the local sports store, feeling a bit awkward, I must admit. I mean, who enjoys shopping for these things? Anyway, I found the aisle and was immediately overwhelmed. There were so many options! Different sizes, different materials, it was a lot to take in. I grabbed a few that looked about right and headed to the changing room.
- First up, I tried a youth size. Nope, way too small. I felt like a sausage.
- Next, I tried a large. Still too snug. I could barely breathe, let alone move.
- Finally, I tried the extra-large. It fit pretty well, felt comfortable enough to wear during training, and not too restrictive.
I bought it, took it home, and decided to give it a test run during my next training session. I slipped it on under my shorts, and I gotta say, it felt weird at first. Like I was wearing a bulky diaper or something. But, I adjusted the straps, did some stretches, and started to get used to it.
During training, I was definitely more confident. I wasn’t worried about taking another accidental shot to the groin. I could focus on my technique and actually enjoy the sparring. Even took a few (thankfully light) hits to the area, and the cup did its job. No pain, no doubling over, just a dull thud. I was very happy for that.
Conclusion of My Experience
If you’re doing any kind of sport where there’s a risk of getting hit down there – kickboxing, MMA, baseball, whatever – do yourself a favor and get a cup. It might feel weird at first, but trust me, it’s way better than the alternative. It’s worth the investment to protect yourself, and it lets you focus on the sport without fear of that kind of injury. Plus, it’s kind of a funny story to tell later.
