Okay, so, I’ve been hearing a lot of chatter about this Rossa Monza Spider putter lately. You know, folks going on and on about how great it is, how it’s changed their game, and blah blah blah. So, I thought, “Why not give this thing a whirl myself?”
First off, I went and found myself a used center-shafted 34-inch TaylorMade Rossa Monza Spider Balero. I didn’t want to invest too much before I even knew if it was any good. When I got my hands on it, I gotta say, it felt kinda weird at first. It’s a mallet-style, which is totally different from my usual blade putter.
I took it to the practice green, and I started hitting some putts. This thing is heavy, man! I felt like it helped me keep my stroke steady and smooth. They say it’s got this steel wire frame that puts more weight on the outside edges. I guess that’s what they’re calling “perimeter weighting.” I started to notice that even when I didn’t hit the ball perfectly, it still rolled pretty straight. They talk about it having a high MOI, which I think just means it’s more forgiving.
One thing I really dig is this “True Path Alignment” thing they got going on. It’s basically this big white line on top that helps you line up your putts. I found myself sinking more putts from like 5-10 feet. I experimented with the two moveable weights at the back and it gave a different feel to the putter. It is also available in a 33-inch length option with a Winn Medalist grip.
I played a few rounds with it, and I was surprised. My putting definitely improved. I felt like I had more control over the distance, and my accuracy was way better. I even picked up the ball with the putter because of that slot it has. I don’t know all the fancy golf talk, but I can tell you this: This Rossa Monza Spider putter is something else.
- Tried out a used TaylorMade Rossa Monza Spider putter.
- Noticed the heavier weight and mallet design.
- Practiced on the green and found it more forgiving.
- Liked the True Path Alignment aid.
- Played a few rounds and saw improvement in putting.
My Verdict
So, is the Rossa Monza Spider putter worth the hype? I’d say yeah, it is. I think if you have had problems with your putting game, this one might work for you.
