Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with fantasy football again this year, and I gotta share my experience with Sam Howell. I figured, what the heck, I’ll document the whole thing from start to finish, no fancy talk, just how it went down.

The Draft
First off, the draft. I wasn’t planning on picking up Howell. Quarterbacks, you know? I was all focused on getting a solid running back, and wide receivers, and my plan to get it. My strategy was in place, my queue was loaded, and then… chaos. People started grabbing quarterbacks way earlier than I expected. Like, way earlier. Panic mode started setting in.
So, there I was, a few rounds in, and my turn was coming up fast. All the quarterbacks I’d even remotely considered were GONE. I’m staring at the screen, heart pounding, and I see Sam Howell sitting there. I remembered some pre-season hype, and I thought, “Eh, why not?”. Click. He’s on my team.
The First Few Weeks
Rough. That’s the best way to describe it. The first couple of weeks were brutal. Sacks, interceptions…you name it, he did it. My team was stinking up the joint, and Howell was a big reason why. I started second-guessing myself, big time. I almost dropped him. Seriously, I hovered over that “Drop Player” button more times than I’d like to admit.
- Week 1: Disaster. Single-digit points. I lost, badly.
- Week 2: Slightly better, but still not good. Another loss.
- Week 3: I benched him. My backup did better (which wasn’t saying much).
The Turning Point
Then, something clicked. I don’t know what it was. Maybe the offensive line started to gel, maybe he got more comfortable with the playbook, I truly get no ideal… But around week four or five, Howell started showing some flashes. He started putting up decent numbers. Not amazing, but respectable. Enough to make me think, “Okay, maybe I wasn’t totally crazy for drafting him.”
The Upswing
From there, it was a slow but steady climb. He started throwing for more yards, more touchdowns, and fewer interceptions. He even started running the ball a little bit, picking up some valuable rushing yards. My team started winning some games! It was like watching a completely different player.
The Final Verdict (So Far)
So, here we are, midway through the season, and Sam Howell is actually…good? I know, I’m as surprised as you are. He’s not a top-tier quarterback, not yet, at least. But he’s a solid starter, someone I can rely on most weeks to get me a decent score. He’s definitely exceeded my (very low) initial expectations.
Would I draft him again? Probably not, to be honest. It was a rollercoaster of emotions. I prefer my fantasy football experience to be a little less stressful. But, I’m not dropping him now. He’s earned his spot on my team. He’s my unlikely hero, the guy I accidentally picked up and somehow, someway, ended up being a key part of my (somewhat) successful season.
It’s been a wild ride, and it just goes to show you, you never really know what’s going to happen in fantasy football. That’s part of the fun, I guess… even if it gives me a few gray hairs along the way.
