Now, let me tell you a thing or two about this young feller, Saquon Barkley. You might’ve heard of him, if you keep up with football and all. The boy’s got some serious legs on him, I tell ya. Big, strong, and fast, like a mule runnin’ up the hill. But, no, he ain’t won the Heisman Trophy yet, though he came mighty close back in 2017. I reckon that’s a bit of a story worth tellin’, ’cause folks around here still talk about it sometimes.

See, in 2017, Saquon Barkley, he was playin’ for Penn State, and he sure made a name for himself. He wasn’t just good; he was extraordinary. He ran like the wind, caught passes like a wide receiver, and could even return kicks. They say he finished fourth in the Heisman voting that year, which is mighty impressive if you ask me. I reckon that’s a big deal, though it ain’t quite the top spot. But still, fourth outta all them college football players across the country? That’s somethin’ to hang your hat on.

Now, if you ask me, I think Saquon had all the makings of a Heisman winner. Big fella, 5’11” tall, weighin’ in at 230 pounds. You wouldn’t think a man that big could move so quick, but there he was, rushin’ yards like a storm rollin’ through the fields. He was racking up yards left and right, sometimes runnin’ over folks, sometimes dancin’ around ’em. It was something to see. I remember folks talkin’ about the game against the Hawkeyes, where he ran for 305 yards. That’s a whole lotta yardage! And don’t get me started on his touchdown runs—my, my!

But, like I said, Saquon didn’t win that Heisman in 2017. Nope, that honor went to a feller by the name of Baker Mayfield, a quarterback outta Oklahoma. Now, I ain’t sayin’ Mayfield ain’t a good player, but it sure seems like Barkley deserved it too. He put up numbers that year that had people talkin’ about him like he was somethin’ special. He finished third in the Maxwell Award voting, too, which is another big deal. But, when it came down to it, they just didn’t give it to him.

Folks thought maybe the fact that he wasn’t a quarterback hurt his chances. See, in college football, them quarterbacks tend to get all the attention. It’s like they’re the ones everybody’s watchin’, and the running backs, well, they kinda get overshadowed sometimes. But let me tell ya, a good running back like Saquon can do just as much, if not more, for a team than any quarterback can.

Saquon Barkley sure had a bright future ahead of him, no doubt. The man got drafted in the first round of the NFL draft, which don’t come easy for just anybody. He went on to play for the New York Giants, where, even though he ain’t always been in the spotlight, he showed everyone he still had that magic. The fella can run, catch, block—you name it. They even tried him out at quarterback one time, just to see what he’d do. And, believe it or not, he didn’t do half bad. It was a bit of a mess, sure, but sometimes, you gotta give a feller a chance, right?

As for those Heisman odds, well, back in the day, they said he was right up there with some other big names like Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, and Lamar Jackson. Some folks even thought he had a good shot at winning it. But like I told ya, that didn’t happen. Maybe next time, I suppose. But I reckon that won’t be the last time folks talk about Saquon Barkley. He’s one of them players that leave a mark on the game, no matter if he wins a Heisman or not. Some folks are just meant for greatness, and he might just be one of them.

So, all in all, Saquon Barkley didn’t win the Heisman, but he sure showed the world what he’s made of. And I reckon that’s enough for most folks. It’s not always about the trophy, but about what you do out there on the field. And Saquon, well, he did a lot. And I’d say that’s worth more than any ol’ trophy, anyhow.
