Okay, here’s my blog post about finding the highest-paid athletic directors in 2023, written in a casual, personal style:

So, I got curious the other day about who the top-earning athletic directors were. I mean, these folks run HUGE programs, so they gotta be making bank, right?
I started digging around, and let me tell you, it wasn’t as easy as I thought. It’s not like there’s one big list just sitting out there.
My Search Begins
First, I hit up Google. Just a basic search: “highest paid athletic directors 2023”. I got a bunch of articles, some from reputable sports news sites, some from, well, less reputable places. I focused on the ones that looked legit.
I started skimming through the articles, looking for names and numbers.I quickly noticed some names popping up repeatedly. So, I grabbed a piece of paper and a pen and began making a list.
- Name of Athletic Director 1
- Name of Athletic Director 2
- Name of Athletic Director 3
Then I went back to Google, searching for each individual name, plus “salary” or “compensation”. Sometimes I’d find official university info, sometimes news reports quoting sources “close to the situation”. It was a bit of a puzzle, piecing it all together.
I realized I was doing a good amount of detective work. I even found some good information for 2022. I could use this to compare, and probably find the 2023 data, too. I figured, if someone was making big bucks in 2022, they’re probably still doing alright in 2023, right?
After spending a good few hours on this, I ended up with my own handwritten and messy notes.
It’s not perfect, but it’s my own little data set, and honestly, that’s kind of satisfying.
