Okay, folks, gather ’round for a quick story about my crossword session today. Nothing too wild, just me, my coffee, and the puzzle grid.

Tackling a Tricky Clue
So I was cruising along, filling in some of the easier answers, feeling pretty good about myself. Then I landed on this one: where to see stars after a blow. I stopped for a second. My first thought was, like, literally? You get smacked and see stars? Seemed a bit direct.
I started thinking about the phrase. “Seeing stars” is what people say when they get hit hard, usually on the head, right? It makes you dizzy, maybe your vision goes funny for a moment. The clue asks where this happens. Well, the hit is usually to the head.
So, my mind went through a few options:
- HEAD: Seemed like the most straightforward answer. The blow lands there.
- SKULL: A bit more specific, but still basically the head.
- EYES: Because that’s where you technically ‘see’ things? But the blow isn’t usually aimed at the eyes for this phrase.
- Maybe something about being dizzy? Like ‘IN A DAZE’? Nah, didn’t feel right for where.
I kept coming back to the cause and effect. The ‘blow’ connects to a place, and the ‘stars’ are the result felt because of that place being hit. The most common spot for a blow that makes you ‘see stars’ is definitely the head.
I checked the number of squares needed in the puzzle grid. It was a four-letter word. Bingo. ‘HEAD’ fit just right. Looked at the letters crossing it that I already had filled in, and they matched up perfectly.
So, that was it. I penciled in HEAD. Felt good to work through that one, connecting the common saying to the actual puzzle answer. Just another small victory in the daily crossword battle!
