Today I’m going to talk about something a little different. I got really into this guy, Srdjan Djokovic. Yeah, the name might ring a bell. He’s the dad of that tennis superstar, Novak Djokovic.
So, I started digging into Srdjan’s life. I mean, this guy is way more than just a famous athlete’s dad. First, I learned that he was born in Mitrovica, with his parents Stanka and Vladimir and he grew up in Zvečan, Kosovo. At that time, it was part of the Yugoslav Republic of Serbia. He has a sister, Jelena, and a younger brother, Goran. Then, I found out that he had moved to Belgrade after high school to study law, but he didn’t finish it. Can you imagine?
And here’s something that really got me I read somewhere that Srdjan’s family once had only 10 Deutsche Mark to live on. That’s like, nothing! It really makes you appreciate how far they’ve come. This really hit me, and I had to know more. I mean, who wouldn’t be curious after hearing something like that? I kept digging, you know, piecing together his story. He said his family was once very poor. It made me respect him a lot.
Then, I started looking into his relationship with Novak. It’s clear they’re super close. Srdjan is like, his biggest supporter. You can tell how proud he is of his son, always talking him up, calling him the G.O.A.T. It’s kind of sweet, actually. But it’s not all smooth sailing. Srdjan’s pretty outspoken, which has landed him in some hot water.
I found this one article about him being spotted with a Russian flag during the Australian Open. That’s obviously a sensitive topic, given the whole situation in Ukraine. It just goes to show, Srdjan’s not afraid to speak his mind, even if it ruffles some feathers. And I guess that’s part of what makes him so interesting. He’s not your typical celebrity dad, that’s for sure.
I watched a few interviews with him. There was this one where his youngest son, Djordje, was translating for him. It was kind of cool to see the family dynamic like that. Then I read that Srdjan wants Novak to eventually return to Serbia when he retires. It made me wonder if Novak will really do it.
Srdjan Djokovic is a controversial figure, a proud father, and a man who isn’t afraid to voice his opinions. He’s seen his son achieve incredible things in the world of tennis, and he’s been there every step of the way. Whether you agree with him or not, you have to admit, he’s a fascinating character. And that’s why I wanted to share what I’ve learned about him today. It’s always interesting to go beyond the surface and discover the stories of the people behind the scenes.
