So, I found myself going down a bit of a rabbit hole the other day. It started pretty simply, I was trying to remember how we solved a particular problem on an old project, years back. And that got me thinking about this one guy, Ronald Mendoza.

Yeah, Ronald. We weren’t super close buddies or anything, but we worked on the same team for maybe a year or two. He was a sharp guy, really good at untangling messy code, the kind of stuff that made my head spin. I figured, hey, maybe I could find him online, pick his brain a little, or just see what he’s up to.
My Search Begins
First thing I did, obviously, was just punch his name into the usual search spots online. “Ronald Mendoza”. Simple enough, right? Wrong. Man, there are a lot of Ronald Mendozas out there. Doctors, guys running for office somewhere, artists… you name it. None of them immediately clicked as the guy I remembered.
Okay, step two. I tried adding the name of the old company we worked at. That narrowed it down a bit, but still, nothing concrete. Lots of old profiles, maybe, but nothing current. It’s like he dropped off the map, work-wise, at least under that specific name and company combo.
Digging Deeper
Then I thought about professional networking sites. You know the ones. Spent a good chunk of time scrolling through profiles there.
- Typed in the name.
- Filtered by industry (or what I thought his industry might be now).
- Looked through connections of old colleagues.
Found a few possibles. Sent a connection request to one or two, adding a little note like “Hey, did we work together at X company back in the day?”. Felt a bit weird, like bothering strangers, but hey, worth a shot.
While waiting, I rummaged through my ancient email archives. Searching for his name or the old project codes. Found a few old email chains, which was a nice trip down memory lane, but no direct contact info that still worked. Figures. People change emails like they change socks.
I even pinged one or two old coworkers I still occasionally chat with. Asked them if they’d heard from Ronald. Mostly got back “Ronald who?” or “Haven’t heard that name in years!”. So, that was another dead end.
What Came of It
So, after all that digging, did I find the Ronald Mendoza I was looking for? Nope. Not definitively, anyway. Maybe one of those connection requests will pan out, maybe not. Who knows.

But the whole exercise got me thinking. It’s kinda strange how easy it is to lose touch with people you once spent 8 hours a day with. You share projects, stress, maybe the odd office joke, and then poof, they’re just a name you vaguely remember. And finding them again? Sometimes it’s like searching for a ghost.
It wasn’t really about finding Ronald in the end, I guess. It was more the act of searching itself. Made me realize how temporary some connections are, especially in the work world. You move on, they move on, and the digital breadcrumbs just fade away. Kinda makes you appreciate the connections you do manage to keep, you know?
