Getting into the UWGB Basketball Camp Experience
Alright, so I decided to check out the UWGB basketball camp recently. Felt like I needed to actually get on a court and, you know, do something besides just thinking about playing. Heard about this camp, figured why not give it a shot.

Showed up there, found the Kress Center without too much trouble. Went through the check-in process, pretty straightforward stuff. Grabbed the camp shirt they handed out. The gym itself was pretty impressive, definitely bigger than what I usually shoot around in. Lots of courts laid out, other folks milling around, getting ready.
They didn’t waste much time getting us started. We jumped right into warm-ups, typical stuff, getting loose. Then it was straight into drills. They broke us up into smaller groups and rotated us through different stations.
Drills and Playing Time
We spent a good chunk of time on the fundamentals. Lots of ball handling, really trying to get a feel for the ball again. Then moved onto passing drills, working on chest passes, bounce passes, hitting teammates on the move. Shooting was another big part, they had us working on form, getting shots up from different spots.
Here’s some of the stuff we focused on:
- Dribbling: Crossovers, behind-the-back, keeping eyes up.
- Shooting: Form shooting close to the basket, then moving back. Catch and shoot stuff.
- Passing: Accuracy, leading the receiver.
- Defense: Stance, sliding, communication. Basic principles.
The coaches running the stations kept things moving. They weren’t super intense like some crazy boot camp, but they gave pointers here and there, tried to correct obvious mistakes. It was mostly about getting reps in, just doing the movements over and over.
Later on, they put us into teams for some scrimmaging. This was probably the most fun part, getting to actually play full court. Tried to use some of the things we practiced in the drills, sometimes it worked, sometimes not so much. It got pretty tiring running up and down, but it was good to compete a bit.
Wrapping Up the Day
By the end of the session, I was definitely feeling it. Legs were tired, arms felt like noodles from all the shooting. But honestly, it felt good. Felt productive. Like I actually spent time focused on getting better, even if it was just for a day or however long the camp ran. It was a solid experience, just getting in there, running the drills, playing the games. Glad I went and did it.
