Okay, so I’ve been digging into this whole Detroit Tigers thing, specifically about their pitchers who’ve snagged 20 or more wins in a season. It’s a pretty cool rabbit hole to go down, let me tell you.
First off, I started by just trying to get a general sense of the team’s history. Turns out, the Tigers have been around for a while – since 1901! They’ve got a solid record too, with 9676 wins and 9567 losses over 124 seasons. I mean, that’s a lot of baseball.
Then I moved on to their all-time pitching leaders. Hooks Dauss, man, that guy was a beast. He racked up 223 wins, which is just insane. George Mullin was no slouch either, with 209 wins under his belt. I did some more poking around and found out about Hal Newhouser. I guess he was another big name back in the day.
But what really caught my eye was this stat about pitchers hitting that 20-win mark in a single season. They say the last guy to win over 30 games was Denny McLain back in ’68, and the most recent one to get more than 25 was Bob Welch in 1990. And Denny McLain, that dude won 31 games for the Tigers in 1968! That’s just wild to think about. It seems like hitting those numbers is a pretty rare feat these days.
To get a better grip on all this, I started looking at their World Series wins and AL pennants. They’ve got four World Series titles – 1935, 1945, 1968, and 1984. Plus, they’ve snagged 11 AL pennants. Not too shabby, right?
Here is the list of Detroit Tigers 20 game winners from my notes:
- Denny McLain (1968): 31 wins
- Hooks Dauss (Career): 223 wins
- George Mullin (Career): 209 wins
So yeah, that’s what I’ve been up to. It’s been a fun little project, diving into the history of the Tigers and their ace pitchers. Makes you appreciate the game a bit more, you know?
