Getting That Big Dog Mount
Okay, so I’ve been playing FF14 for a good while now, seen a lot of cool mounts. But man, when I first saw someone riding that huge three-headed dog, Cerberus, I knew I had to get one. It just looks so imposing, you know? Definitely makes a statement.

First thing was figuring out where the heck it came from. A quick search told me it was tied to the Save the Queen stuff, specifically Delubrum Reginae. Not the normal version, oh no, that would be too easy. It drops from the Savage version, DRS they call it. Right, Savage difficulty, 48 players. Instantly knew this wasn’t going to be a quick weekend project.
So, the journey began. Getting into DRS isn’t like queuing for your daily roulette. You need a dedicated group, usually organized outside the game through community sites or discords. Finding 47 other people willing to bash their heads against some tough fights? Yeah, that takes time and effort. I spent a fair bit just looking for groups, seeing posts asking for specific jobs or experience levels. It felt a bit like applying for a job, honestly.
Finally found a group that seemed decent, a mix of veterans and learners like me. And let me tell you, those first few runs were… something. Delubrum Reginae Savage is no joke. It’s chaotic. You’ve got mechanics happening all over the place, needing split-second reactions and tight coordination across multiple small parties within the big 48-player group.
- We wiped. A lot.
- Sometimes it was mechanics, sometimes just someone getting clipped by an AoE.
- Learning the fights, especially the later bosses, took patience.
- Coordination is key; if one small group messes up, it can easily cascade.
It’s a real test of endurance. We’d schedule runs, spend hours inside, make some progress, hit a wall, call it a night, and try again next time. Some nights were frustrating, felt like we were going backwards. But then you’d have a run where everything clicked, people executed perfectly, and you’d clear a boss you were stuck on. That felt amazing, kept the motivation going.
The Grind and The Reward
Even after getting consistent clears, the mount isn’t guaranteed. It’s a random drop. So, you clear it once, celebrate, then realize you gotta do it again. And again. And probably again. Each week, hoping this is the run. You see others in the group get theirs, which is nice for them, but also makes you think, “When’s my turn gonna come?”
I lost count of how many clears I did. Felt like forever. Running the same instance, doing the same mechanics (mostly). It becomes muscle memory, but still requires focus because one slip-up can cost the run, especially in Savage.
Then, one night, after clearing the final boss, the loot window pops up. And there it was. The Cerberus Horn. My heart kinda jumped, not gonna lie. Rolled for it, held my breath… and won the roll! Just like that. After all those runs, all that effort, finally got the big dog.
Summoning it for the first time felt damn good. It’s huge, it roars, it’s everything I hoped for. Was it worth the grind, the frustration, the time investment? Yeah, I think so. It’s not just about the mount itself, but the experience of tackling and overcoming one of the game’s tougher challenges with a big group. It’s a badge of honor, in a way. Plus, it looks seriously cool parked in Limsa.
