Alright, let’s talk about Tom Kim’s WITB (What’s In The Bag)! I’ve been tinkering with my own setup lately, trying to squeeze out every last bit of performance, so seeing what the pros are using is always interesting. This isn’t some perfectly polished review, just my notes and observations from trying to replicate parts of his setup.

First off, the driver. He’s been gaming a Titleist TSR3, and honestly, so have I for a while now. Getting it dialed in took some work. I started by messing around with the adjustable weights, trying to kill my slice. Spoiler alert: weights won’t fix a fundamentally bad swing. What DID help was getting the right shaft. I went through a fitting and ended up with a Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black. It’s a low-launch, low-spin monster, which suits my aggressive swing. Getting the right grip is another under estimated aspect. I use Golf Pride MCC +4 which are great.
Next, the fairway woods. Tom carries a Titleist TSR2. I tried it out for a bit, but I am struggling to hit it well. I’m more consistent with my old Callaway. So, I sold the TSR2 after a few rounds. Sometimes what works for a pro just doesn’t translate to my game, and that’s okay.
Irons are where things get really interesting. Tom’s rocking Titleist T100s, and these things are pure blades. I picked up a used set to test. These are not forgiving. Mishits are punished severely. However, when you flush one, oh man, the feel is incredible. I’m still working on consistently hitting them well enough to justify keeping them in the bag full-time. For now, they’re more of a practice tool to improve my ball striking.
For wedges, he’s got Vokey SM9s. Classic, reliable, and spins like crazy. I grabbed a 56 and a 60 degree. Spent hours around the practice green, trying to learn different shots. Flops, low spinners, high soft landings – it’s all about feel and practice. Get yourself fitted for the right bounce and grind, it makes a huge difference.
Putter time! Tom uses a Scotty Cameron. I don’t have the exact same model, but I do have a Scotty. The key with putting is confidence. Find a putter that feels good in your hands, lines up easily, and gives you consistent feedback. Practice your stroke religiously, and you’ll start draining more putts. I’ve been experimenting with different grips, currently using a SuperStroke Pistol GT Tour, which I find helps keep my hands quiet.
Finally, the ball. Titleist Pro V1x. Can’t go wrong with it. It’s the gold standard for a reason. Durable, consistent, and performs well in all conditions. I’ve tried other balls, but I always come back to the Pro V1x. It just feels right off the club, and I know what to expect from it.

So, there you have it. A peek into my attempt to emulate Tom Kim’s WITB. It’s been a fun process, learning about different equipment and how it affects my game. Remember, what works for a pro might not work for you. Experiment, find what suits your swing and your playing style, and most importantly, have fun out there!
