Alright, so I gotta tell you about this crazy thing that happened to me a while back. You know Tom Segura, right? The comedian, podcast guy? Well, I was messing around with my buddies, and we decided to have a little dunk contest of our own, inspired by that whole Tom Segura and Bert Kreischer fiasco.
Let me set the scene: It was a sunny Saturday afternoon, and we were at my buddy Mike’s place. He’s got this hoop in his backyard, but it’s one of those adjustable ones. Naturally, we lowered it down, feeling all confident like we were NBA stars or something.
We started off with some basic dunks, you know, just getting warmed up. My friend, Alex, he’s a pretty big guy, but he can jump surprisingly high. He went first, threw down a couple of easy ones. Then it was my turn. I’m not the tallest guy, but I’ve got some hops. I did a couple of simple dunks, feeling pretty good. I saw a video online with the title, “The fall of Tom Segura,” which made me even more cautious.
Then, things started to get a little more competitive. We started trying to outdo each other with fancier dunks.
- Alex tried a 360, but he kinda missed and ended up just grabbing the rim.
- Mike tried to do a between-the-legs dunk, but he tripped on the way up. It was hilarious.
I was feeling pretty confident at this point. I decided to try something a bit more ambitious. You know, like what Tom Segura did. It is said that he suffered two severe injuries in that stupid incident.
The Dunk Attempt
I took a couple of steps back, got a running start, and leaped into the air. Now, here’s where things went south. I went up for the dunk, but I kinda mistimed my jump. Instead of slamming the ball through the hoop, I ended up just hanging on the rim.
And then, it happened. I felt this sharp pain in my left knee. It was like nothing I’d ever felt before. I let go of the rim and fell to the ground, clutching my knee. My friends, of course, were freaking out. They rushed over, helped me up, and that was the end of our little dunk contest.
I learned a valuable lesson that day: leave the fancy dunks to the pros. It’s just not worth it. I mean, I read somewhere that Tom Segura ripped his left patella doing something similar. That could have been me, man! I am so lucky that I am okay. I was watching his stand-up specials on Netflix, like “Disgraceful” and “Ball Hog,” just a few weeks ago. And I know he is a comedian, writer, actor, and podcast host. I did not want to be famous like that.
Anyway, that’s my story. It’s a cautionary tale, I guess. Don’t be like me. Or Tom Segura, for that matter. Just enjoy the game, and keep your feet on the ground. And if you do decide to have a dunk contest, maybe keep the hoop at regulation height. Just a thought.
