Alright, guys, let’s talk about something I got into today – figuring out past winners of golf’s PGA Majors. I didn’t have a specific project in mind, just pure curiosity. Started out kinda aimless, but it turned into a fun little dive.

My Little Research Journey
First, I fired up my browser. You know, the usual starting point. I wasn’t sure exactly where to look, so I just typed in “pga major winners.” I figured that was broad enough.
The search results? A whole bunch of stuff! Websites, news articles, you name it. It was a little overwhelming at first. I skimmed through a few, and it looked like some sites had lists, but they weren’t always super easy to read or organized the way I wanted. Too much clutter!
Then, I remembered a few of the official golf sites. You know, the PGA’s own website, maybe the Masters site, and things like that. I figured they had to have the info, right? It’s their tournaments!
I navigated to a couple of those official sites. And yeah, they did have the information, but it sometimes took a little digging. Some had dedicated pages for past champions, others were buried in historical sections or tournament archives.
So, I started jotting things down. Just in a simple text file, nothing fancy. I made a list for each of the four Majors – the Masters, the PGA Championship, the U.S. Open, and The Open Championship (that’s the British Open, for us casual fans!).
- Masters:
- PGA Championship:
- U.S. Open:
- The Open Championship:
I found a pretty clean list on their site, so I could easily see the winners going back years. Pretty cool to see all those legendary names!
Their official site was also helpful. The list wasn’t super long, it’s not a big deal.
This one took some more time for searching. Finally, I realized how to find it.

The oldest one! So much history there. It was neat to look at the really early winners, back in the 1800s.
As I went through each tournament, I copied down the winners’ names and the years they won. It was a bit tedious, honestly, but also kinda satisfying to build up the list myself. It felt more… real than just reading it off some random website.
It wasn’t a super complicated process, but it was a good reminder that sometimes you gotta dig a little to find what you’re looking for. And hey, I learned a bit more about golf history along the way!
In the end, I’ve built my own mini-database of Major winners and learned a few things. That is cool!
