Alright, so you wanna know how old this Wemby fella is, huh? Well, lemme tell ya, this young’un ain’t been around too long. They say he’s just a baby, really. He’s 19 years old, can you believe it? Just a sprout!
Now, I ain’t no basketball expert, mind you. I’m just an old woman who’s seen a thing or two. But even I can tell this Wemby kid is somethin’ special. They’re all a-buzzin’ about him, sayin’ he’s gonna be the next big thing. Folks are callin’ him a “generational player”. That sounds fancy, don’t it? Means he’s one of a kind, I reckon.
- He’s real tall, like, really tall. Taller than anyone I ever did see. They say he’s 7 foot 4 inches! Goodness gracious, that’s like a beanpole walkin’ around! And his arms, they stretch out like a bird’s wings. Heard someone say his wingspan is 8 feet. Imagine that!
- He can score points, too. Lots of ’em. They tell me he had a game where he got 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists. That’s a lot, even for someone who knows the game, which I surely don’t. And they say he’s the youngest fella to ever do somethin’ like that. He’s breaking records left and right, this boy.
- And he can shoot the ball real good. Makes those baskets from far away, even from way out yonder past the three-point line. I saw him on the TV once, flickin’ that wrist and whoosh! The ball just sails right through the hoop. He’s gettin’ better all the time, too. Practice makes perfect, they say, and this young’un seems to be practicin’ plenty.
Now, they used to talk about this Michael Jordan fella, sayin’ he was the best there ever was. Heard he won all sorts of medals and championships. And there were those other tall fellas, Muresan and Bol, they say they were real tall, too. But this Wemby, he’s somethin’ else. He’s got the height, the skills, and he’s still growin’, both in size and in the game, I guess.
He had a bit of a slow start, they say. But now? He’s firin’ on all cylinders, like a well-oiled machine, as the fellas down at the auto shop like to say. He had a game where he made 18 shots outta 29, and 8 of them were from way out yonder! That’s some shootin’, I tell ya. And he even made his free throws, which is important, even I know that much.
Sometimes, it seems like he’s playin’ a different game than everyone else. He does things you just don’t see other players do. Like that time he got one of them “triple-doubles” everyone was hollerin’ about. Points, rebounds, and assists, all in one game. It’s a rare thing, they say, and he’s the youngest to ever do it with points, rebounds and blocks all together in one game. He’s makin’ history, this boy, even though he’s just a youngster. Makes you wonder what he’ll be able to do when he gets older and stronger.
So, yeah, 19 years old. That’s how old Wemby is. A young fella with a bright future, if you ask me. And even if you don’t ask me, I’m tellin’ ya anyway! He’s got the whole world watchin’ him, waitin’ to see what he’ll do next. And I reckon, we’re all gonna be surprised, ‘cause this boy’s got somethin’ special, somethin’ real special.
