Alright, so, you wanna hear about this tennis match, huh? Venus Williams and Madison Keys, they call ’em. I watched it, kinda. More like, it was on while I was doin’ my chores. You know how it is, gotta keep busy, can’t just sit and stare at the telly all day.
So, first thing, this Venus, she’s been around a while, you know? Like, a real long while. Folks say she’s 43, which in my book is ancient for runnin’ around a court like that. But she ain’t no slouch, that’s for sure. Started strong, she did. Winning and winning, looked like she might just take the whole thing.
This Madison girl, though, she’s younger, spryer. Reminds me of them young chickens back on the farm, all full of energy and pep. Venus, she was like the old hen, wise and steady, but maybe not as quick as she used to be. You know what I mean?
- First set, Venus was all over Madison. Boom, boom, boom, points left and right.
- Then, somethin’ changed. Madison, she woke up, I guess. Started hittin’ them balls harder, runnin’ faster.
- Venus, well, she looked tired, you know? Like she’d run out of steam. Happens to the best of us, I reckon.
It was like watchin’ a pot boil over, then simmer down real quick. Venus, she started losin’ points, then games. Madison, she just kept goin’, like a train with no brakes. The young’un took over, plain and simple.
This match, they said it was in Montreal, some fancy place up north. Heard it’s real pretty there, but I ain’t never been. Too busy with my own gardenin’ and such. They got dates and times and all that, but who can keep track? As long as the game’s on, that’s all that matters, right?
They kept sayin’ stuff like “WTA” and “National Bank Open,” all these fancy words. Don’t mean nothin’ to me, I just wanna see some good tennis. And for a while there, it was good. Venus showin’ off her old tricks, Madison showin’ off her young energy. Then, poof, it was over.
This other time, they said Venus hadn’t played in six months. That’s a long time, no? I go to the market everyday, can’t take a break. But anyway, Venus lost the last ten games, they said. Ten! Land sakes, that’s a lot. Must’ve been tough on the old gal. But hey, she’s a fighter, that Venus. You can see it in her eyes. She don’t give up easy.
They had these folks talkin’ ’bout the game, you know, the commentators they call ’em. They go on and on about stats and points and all that. I just watch the ball, myself. See who hits it harder, who runs faster. That’s how you know who’s winning, no need for all that fancy talk.
So, in the end, Madison won. No surprise there, I guess. Youth usually wins out, don’t it? But Venus, she put up a good fight. Made it interestin’ for a while there. And that’s all you can ask for, really. A good fight, a good show, and then back to your chores.
They’ll play again, I reckon. These tennis folks, they always playin’. Maybe next time Venus will win. Or maybe not. Who knows? I’ll probably be watchin’ again, or at least listenin’ while I’m dustin’ the furniture or somethin’. Keeps things lively, you know?
At the end of the day, it’s just a game, right? Folks runnin’ around, hittin’ a ball. Nothin’ more, nothin’ less. But it’s somethin’ to watch, somethin’ to talk about. And that’s enough for me.
