My Little Project: Digging into Amy Mickelson
Alright, so the other day, I found myself with a bit of downtime and got curious about Amy Mickelson. You know, you hear the name alongside Phil’s all the time, but I realized I didn’t really know much about her, the person. So, I decided to make it a little project, just spend some time figuring things out for myself.

First thing I did was just, you know, basic searching around. Typed the name in, saw what popped up. Lots of pictures with Phil, lots about her support during his career, which is expected. Saw mentions of her own health battles, specifically breast cancer. That definitely stood out. Showed some real strength there, going through that so publicly.
Then I tried to dig a bit deeper. I wanted to see what else was out there besides the usual golf spouse narrative. It wasn’t super easy, honestly. A lot of the stuff you find is naturally tied to Phil’s career and public life. I started jotting down some things I came across consistently:
- Her background before meeting Phil, like being a Phoenix Suns cheerleader. Found that interesting.
- Details about their family life, the kids. Seemed pretty focused on family.
- Her involvement in charity work, often related to cancer research or supporting families. That seemed genuine.
It took a bit of sifting, though. You get a lot of repetitive articles or just mentions in passing within stories about Phil. Finding stuff focused purely on her own story or perspective required more patience. It’s like peeling an onion, you gotta get through the outer layers.
What struck me most was how she handled the spotlight, especially during tough times like her illness. Seemed very composed, very private despite the circumstances. You kind of get a sense of a strong personality there, not just someone standing in the background. It’s easy to just see the public image, but trying to piece together the person behind it was the goal here.
So yeah, that was my little exercise. Didn’t uncover any earth-shattering secrets, obviously, but it was a good practice in looking past the headlines. Just spent a couple of hours reading, filtering, and trying to get a slightly clearer picture. Felt like I got a bit more context on someone often seen but maybe not always seen, if you know what I mean.
