Okay, so November 2023. I decided to get serious about tracking my dreams. Not just vaguely remembering them, but really digging in. I’d always been fascinated by the idea of lucid dreaming, you know, where you’re aware you’re dreaming and can kinda control things? So that was my ultimate goal.
Getting Started
First thing I did was grab a notebook and a pen. Nothing fancy, just something I could keep by my bed. The idea was to write down everything I could remember as soon as I woke up. Even if it was just a feeling, a color, or a single word. I figured the more I practiced recalling, the better I’d get.
The first few days were…rough. I’d wake up, grab the notebook, and…blank. Total blank. It was frustrating! I knew I’d been dreaming, but I couldn’t grasp onto anything concrete.
Building the Habit
But I kept at it. Every morning, same routine. Wake up, grab notebook, write. Slowly, things started to come back. Little fragments. Like, one morning I wrote down “red car, fast, feeling scared”. Not much, but it was something.
I also started doing what some people call “reality checks” during the *, you do the follow steps:
- Look at your hands. Do they look normal?
- Pinch my nose and try to breathe through it.
- Check the surronding things, Are they changed?
Sounds weird, I know, but the idea is that if you get into the habit of questioning reality in your waking life, you’ll start doing it in your dreams too. And that’s when you can realize you’re dreaming.
Little Victories
Mid-November, I had my first mini-breakthrough. I wrote down a whole paragraph! It was a dream about being in a school, but the walls were made of cheese. Cheese! Still, it was a lot more detail than I’d managed before. And it felt…vivid. Like I could almost smell the cheddar (which, in retrospect, is kinda gross).
Still No Lucid Dreaming, But…
By the end of November, I hadn’t had a full-blown lucid dream. I didn’t get to fly around or conjure up a pizza buffet or anything. But I was definitely remembering my dreams more clearly. And I was feeling more…connected to them. Like they weren’t just these random, meaningless things that happened while I was asleep.
So, yeah, that was my November dream project. No superpowers unlocked, but a lot of progress made. I’m definitely keeping up the dream journal. Who knows what December will bring?
