Alright, let me tell ya ’bout this Wrestlemania 2 thing, ya know, back in the day. It wasn’t like these fancy shows they got now, no sir. This was in 1986, yeah, a long, long time ago. They had it on April 7th, a Monday, imagine that! Not even on a weekend like normal folks do things.
Wrestlemania 2, they called it. It was the second one, so not too big yet, but still a big deal for us wrestling fans. They didn’t just have it in one place, oh no, they were fancy and had it in three different cities! New York, that’s one I remember. And some other places too, but don’t ask me to spell ’em, I ain’t no school teacher.
Now, the big match everyone was yappin’ about was Hollywood Hogan, that big fella, and King Kong Bundy. They were in a steel cage, a big ol’ metal thing, like a giant chicken coop but for wrestlers. Hogan, he won, of course, he was the good guy back then. Always smilin’ and flexin’, that one.
They also had this big ol’ battle royal, a whole bunch of fellas punchin’ and kickin’ each other. Even had some football players in there, those big tough guys from the NFL. Don’t ask me who won that one, too many bodies flyin’ around, hard to keep track.
- They say it was a big deal, this Wrestlemania 2.
- Said it was the biggest wrestling thing around.
- Folks from all over the world were watchin’, or so they say.
They sold tickets, lots of ’em, 40,000 they say. And even more folks watched it on TV, pay-per-view they called it. Quarter of a million people paid good money to see these fellas wrestle, can you believe it? Money well spent, I say, better than watchin’ them soap operas my neighbor’s always goin’ on about.
But you know, some folks, they weren’t too happy with it. Said it wasn’t as good as the first one, said it fell flat. Well, I liked it alright. What do they know, these fancy city folk critics? We didn’t have nothin’ like this in my small town, so seeing those big guys on TV was somethin’ special. It was wrestling, plain and simple, no fancy stuff.
They had Mr. T there too, that fella from the TV, fightin’ in a boxing match. A boxin’ match at a wrestling show, go figure. But that’s how they did things back then, always tryin’ somethin’ new, keepin’ us on our toes. Not like today, same ol’ thing over and over.
Wrestlemania 2, huh? It’s a piece of history now. Makes me feel old just talkin’ about it. Back then, things were simpler, wrestling was wrestling, good guys and bad guys, nothin’ complicated. And that’s how I like it.
Even though some folks say it wasn’t the best, for me, it was a good time. Brought some excitement to our lives, somethin’ to talk about with the neighbors. And that’s all that matters, ain’t it? Just some good ol’ fashioned entertainment.
And that’s the story of Wrestlemania 2, as best as I can remember it. A bunch of big fellas, some punches, some kicks, and a whole lotta fun. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper. This talkin’s made me hungry.
