Alright, so picture this: I headed out to Yankee Stadium last Sunday, all pumped for the Yankees-Blue Jays game. The weather was looking a bit iffy, but hey, what’s a little rain to a die-hard fan, right?
I got to the stadium, grabbed my usual hot dog and beer, and settled into my seat. The game kicked off, and everything was going great. We were in the eighth inning, a real nail-biter, and then bam! The skies opened up.
The Waiting Game
- The game was officially delayed.
- I learned that there’s this rule where they have to wait at least 30 minutes before they can call it off.
- So, I waited. And waited.
- The tarp was on the field.
- Everyone around me was glued to their phones, checking weather updates and whatnot.
I even found some Yankees rain delay forecast account on Twitter that was posting updates. It’s kind of funny how everyone becomes an amateur meteorologist in these situations.
Turns out, the Blue Jays had just tied the game at the top of the eighth. Talk about a cliffhanger! There was no official word on when they’d start playing again. The stadium was buzzing with this weird mix of anticipation and frustration. After about an hour of waiting in the stadium and seeing that the rain wasn’t going to let up, I finally decided to call it a day and head home.
Later on, I found out that they never resumed the game that day. My ticket turned into a rain check. I can either use it for the rescheduled game or exchange it for a similar game later in the season. I haven’t decided what I’ll do yet, but one thing’s for sure, that Yankees rain delay is something I won’t forget anytime soon!
Oh, and one more thing – I also found out that the Yankees haven’t had an Old-Timers’ game since 2019! Maybe they’re holding off because of these rain delays?
Anyway, that’s my little adventure from last Sunday. A bit of a washout, but still a memorable day at the ballpark.
